The first race weekend of the season is now behind us and it was a great one. Especially for the Avalanche Andretti Formula E Team, who not only managed a win and a fourth place but also took home the fastest lap.
40,000 fans came to the Mexico E-Prix circuit to watch the season opener and they were not disappointed.
However, for some drivers, it wasn't such a good race. Altogether there were 5 DNFs. Unfortunately, Rast (NEOM Mclaren Formula E Team), Mortara (Maserati MSG Racing), Frijns (Abt Cupra Formula E Team), Bird (Jaguar TCS Racing) and Nato (Nissan Formula E Team) did not make it to the finish line.
Jake Hughes, unfortunately, slipped from 3rd to 5th place after a good qualifying session and missed out on the podium, while Pascal Wehrlein climbed up from 6th on the grid to 2nd place. Dan Ticktum was also unlucky after receiving a drive-through penalty and dropping down 12 places because of it.
Jake Dennis, however, dominated completely and after a great qualifying (p2) got the win and the fastest lap with a lead of almost 8 seconds over Pascal Wehrlein in 2nd.
At turn 9, Frinjs collided with Nato after being pushed from behind, resulting in a safety car. This also ended Frijns "no retirement" streak (2 full years without a retirement).
Jake Dennis after the win:
"Absolutely incredible. The fans here have just been sensational, on that final lap I could really hear them cheering. Big shoutout to my team."
